IBM formatted Magneto Optical (MO), is a method of recording data on an optical disk. Thin film materials used in MO disks are magneto-optical materials. These materials reflect light with a certain polarization depending upon the magnetic state of the material. The magnetic state of the material can be changed at high temperature in the presence of a magnetic field. An MO disk is written thermo-magnetically and read back optically.
